We were instructed to make out of tape (pink and yellow), cardboard, plastic cup a sculpture to work as an extension of our body. Later we were also told that it shoul hold a phone so we can film.
My sculpture became sort of a hat, but it started as something that should have resembled a camera obscura. I added some paper straws at the top, and made a slot for my phone to fit in, so I can use it for filming. The hat made me look like an catholic pope, or like Alex said as an Egiptean Pharaoh, probably because of my plated beard.
Later on we performed as group connecting all the sculptures together and act as one. We suppose to portray a very blank face while walking around the campus and the square. This should give away emotions to the viewers. It should've have helped with the potential embarrassment while performing. It worked.
The performance felt ritualic, similar to a procession of some sort. It felt religious. It felt Zenic. It felt that we all were synchronised by the ritm of our tromping and the tope that was used to link us worked as connecting system. The tromping ritm changed gradually working almost as "waves".
The feeling changed after seeing the film made by Jonathan. Even though the performance felt zenic initially, the visuals portrayed some kind of comic theatrical performance.
How do I feel about it? I don't know, not negative anyway, I did enjoy the workshop. So different that what my practice is in a away, but so necessary to be able to understand my purposed as a image maker. I believe I need to engage more with this sort of making.
These are photos of my peers "magical" hands. Hands that are constantly engaged with making all sort of amazing things.
