I experimented with long exposure using my Polaroid SX70 which I modified by changing the main board with a custom made one. This allowes me to use manual settings so I can control the exposure and aperture. As I photographed my self sleeping I opened the shutter when I went to bed and closed when I wake up. The first two I slept about 6 hours and the last two about 8 hours.
Sleeping is when I face my inner thoughts in a more "intimate" space, they become louder and there is a struggle of who dominates. They represent all the emotions at once. It's a hard battle that ends when I fall asleep and restarts few times as I wake up during night. I wanted to document this process.
The last two - the over exposed makes me tink of the Bertram David Lewis's concept of "the dream screen" in my case is the actual place where the dreams take place. He saw the "dream screen" as a symbol of losing the state of wholeness, dependence and safe space (provided by the mother to an infant) and is becoming a "blank screen" where the primal instincts such as fear and anxiety, emptiness, regrets are projected.
In my "previous life" I was an electronics technician, from time to time I like using those skills. I ordered a custom made control board for my SX70 and I installed it few weeks ago. This give me the ability to control the shutter and the aperture on my SX70.
